HOME EYE TEST

HOME EYE TEST

Home Clinic Opticians is a home visiting optician offering home eye tests for patients who find it difficult getting to the opticians, or those preferring the convenience of a home visit. We provide a full and comprehensive patient focussed home eye test.

If you are unable to get to the optician unaided due to a health condition or a physical/mental disability then you may be entitled to a free NHS home eye test.  Otherwise if you are able to get to the optician but would prefer to have one in the comfort of your own home, then we can also arrange a home visit as a private patient.

Our Optometrists have experience testing in various types of environments and testing patients with various disabilities. Testing children who have learning difficulties, to the elderly who have dementia and medical conditions like arthritis. Testing adults who have agoraphobia and also seeing patients in their working environment for an eye test. These are just a few examples of the variety of patients we are able to see.

Our approach to every eye test at home is simple, it is person centered so that every eye test in its entirety is based around you. Not only is the whole process bought to you but we aim to provide a service which makes your day to day activities paramount in our decision making process,  ensuring each eye test  is individual and tailored.

To book an appointment please contact us by phone or online.

Your Requirements

Our patient journey starts from the moment you call us or enquire via the website to book an eye test.

Once the booking is confirmed, our colleagues will send out a questionnaire for you to fill out prior to the eye test in order to gauge your requirements, thus ensuring your experience and the whole process is catered towards your needs.

Your Eye Test

On the day of the eye test

Our staff will arrive upon the designated time and at greeting will present their identification before entering either the home, care home or workplace.

A brief summary of the Eye test procedure:

Set up Equipment

First we will set up the equipment which does not take up much space. A letter chart would be placed at a specific distance and place the trial lens set next to you.

History and Symptoms

After reviewing the questionnaire you will be asked a few further questions such as medical history, ocular history and if you’re experiencing any problems.

Health Check

A health check of the eye now will be carried out using portable equipment such as an ophthalmoscope and a slit lamp.

Pressure Check

Pressures of the eyes will be measured by using the very patient friendly I-care tonometer. You may have had a ‘puff of air’ into your eye during one of the routine tests at your local Opticians. This test measures the internal pressure of your eye and helps the optometrist decide if there are any eye conditions present such as glaucoma. Many people don’t like this test due to the fact it is uncomfortable and intrusive. We at Home Clinic Opticians want our patients to feel comfortable at every step of their eye test, that is why we use the iCare Tonometer. A comfortable, fast and easy way to check your pressure.

Vision Check

Visions will be measured using your existing glasses/prescription.

Refraction

An extensive refraction (prescription check) will be carried out to find out if there have been any changes in prescription. This includes a method of retinoscopy initially to give a rough estimate of the prescription.

Our experienced optometrists will then provide a detailed outcome of the eye test and will only recommend new spectacles if necessary. Additional spectacle support and enhanced features would also be recommended if required in order to aid your day to day tasks and requirements.

This information will also be provided in your detailed outcome booklet. Furthermore if you still have any queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us as one of our optometrists will always be available to help.

Your Glasses

If there has been a change in prescription you can then choose from our extensive range of frames. Ranging from our budget spectacles, all the way to our premium brands.

We provide an excellent dispensing service and only use a range of high quality lenses from a select group of reputable manufacturers.

Our friendly staff can assist you all the way in advising and assisting you choosing your glasses.

Once you have chosen your glasses all information will be left with you in the outcome booklet detailing all test outcomes, your purchase and full receipt.

However if you would like more time to think about a possible purchase then we will leave a quotation booklet as you are under no pressure and obligation to purchase from us. Payment can then be made over our payment line once you are fully satisfied and would like to go ahead with the order.

What Happens Next

Once the order has been approved and processed your glasses should take no longer than 1 week* to be made and delivered out to you.
Our customer service team will contact you to arrange a delivery day/time which suits you.
